A review and comparison of handpans in four scales: D Kurd, D Celtic, F Pygmy and F Lydian. We listen to each one and work out which scale suits whom, especially if you are choosing your first instrument.
D Kurd is the full minor scale, the most universal and forgiving one, with the most lessons made for it. D Celtic has one note removed, so it sounds more open and flowing, a little like a harp, and it is the easiest to improvise on.
Improvisation course: 18 short lessons, rock 3/4, eastern Talla 8/8, African 5/8. €35 a month with the first week free, or the whole course for €150.
